Updates

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained WSP to manage a website for the replacement and rehabilitation of several bridges along Highway 401 within the Ministry's eastern region (Durham Region – Northumberland County boundary to the Ontario – Quebec border).

The purpose of this website is to keep members of the public informed, to share publicly-available reports and other materials, and to allow for public comments. This website will be continually updated to give notification of project milestones, opportunities for public engagement and other relevant information.

The map below shows the location of all bridges proposed to be rehabilitated or replaced. Clicking on a bridge location will display additional information about that project.

The PROJECTS tab located at the top of the screen will allow access into the site of interest using a drop-down list.

January 27, 2022: Hallecks Road Underpass
  • Notice of Completion of Transportation Environmental Study Report issued for the replacement of the Hallecks Road Underpass on Highway 401 in the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley. The notice may be viewed here. The TESR may be viewed here.

January 12, 2022: Highway 401 Power Dam Bridge and Interchange Study
  • MTO is undertaking a Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study for the Highway 401 Power Dam Bridge and Interchange Study. This includes the replacement of Bridge Site 13X-180/BO that carries Power Dam Drive over Highway 401. The Study will also develop the long-term plan for the interchange and establish the footprint for the future widening of Highway 401 to six lanes. The project is located in the Township of South Stormont, within the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. The bridge design will consider the future widening of Highway 401, but the EA for the future widening will not be completed as part of this Study.
  • You are encouraged to visit the Study website, www.highway401powerdam.com, where study information including notices, background information, PIC displays, and the TESR will be made available for review as the study progresses. You can also submit comments to the study team on the Study website.
